Gokyo Lakes

As you gradually ascend, the Gokyo lake comes visible over the horizon greeting you with pristine blue and green waters, a sight that is truly memorable. The Gokyo Lakes system are one of the highest freshwater Lake systems in the world that range at heights over 5,000 meters. Gokyo lakes are ideal for trekkers that want to experience an assortment of views, that exists around the six glacial-fed Gokyo Lakes.

Many who come here also visit the Gokyo Ri summit that lies at the same height as the Everest Base camp, here you can experience spectacular views of turquoise coloured lakes as well as the view of Mt. Everest and other peaks that are above 8,000 meters. From here you can also bear witness to one of the largest glaciers in the Himalayan region “Ngozumpa” glacier. It is truly a paradise here on earth you must visit.

Itinerary Detail

Day 1 Arrive to Kathmandu

From your arrival in Tribhuban International Airport you will be transferred to your hotel, we’ll gather for a briefing explaining the daily routine for the coming days. You will also receive your Sagarmatha National Park Permits and TIMS.

Day 2 Kathmandu to Lukla (2850m) Flight and Phadking 2660m)

Walking Distance: 8km (3-4 hours) Pick Up from hotel and transfer to Kathmandu Domestic Airport. We fly to Lukla which sits at an elevation of 2850 meters, soon after we take some refreshments be introduced to your guides and porters. We start the first-leg of our trek to Phakding which is a 2 hour hike walking along the shores of Dudhkoshi River(2,530m/8,300ft). We will be staying the night to acclimatize, after an early dinner you have a free time in Phadking.

Day 3 Phadking to Namche Bazaar (3435m)

Walking Distance: 10-12km (5-6 hours) After an early wake-up call and breakfast, we will be gearing for our trek towards Namche Bazaar, the largest Sherpa village in Nepal. Your trail takes you first over the Dudhkoshi River (River of Milk), and then north through a beautiful pine forest to Monju, about two hours away. Soon after, we will approach the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park and then descend towards the Dudh Koshi River (spotting Mani Prayer stones along the way!) en route to Jorasalle. Lunch will be served here, and then it’s uphill to Namche. Your path along the riverbank is flanked by two crossings, one of which is the Hillary Suspension Bridge. It’s a tough climb up the hill to our resting place, but you'll be rewarded in Namche Bazaar with your first glimpse of Everest in its Great Splendour. We will spend the next two nights here acclimatizing and taking short treks.

Day 4 Namche Bazaar Rest day

Today, we rest at Namche Bazaar to get properly acclimatized with the increasing altitude. Namche village, is a separated bowl-shaped region which has become very popular as the number of Tourist increase over the years. From here you can see remarkable sights of the Khumbu region with views of peaks like Amadablam (6856m), Thamserku (6608m) and most importantly, mesmerizing views of Everest.

Day 5 Hiking up to Dole (4200m)

As we leave Namche Bazaar our paths move downhill moving along the trails but as we pass the Mon La pass it slowly moves upwards until reaching Phortse Tenga. En-route you will see rhododendron forest, known as the “Laliguras” to the locals and is the national flower of Nepal and is found in abundance in the mountains of the country. Further moving upward our destination Dhole seems a little closer. From Namche Bazaar to Dhole it would take up to 6 hours.

Day 6 Hiking up to Machherma, (4470m)

After a good night’s sleep at Dhole we will depart for Machherma laying at a altitude of 4470 meters. Today En Route we will be able to see the Cho Oyu, Kantega and Thamserku that will leave you spell struck. Today our trails will also take us through another rhododendron forest that line our way, the trek today will be for about four hours.

Day 7 Hiking up to Gokyo, (4790m)

Today, we walk with great expectations in mind as we will see the first glimpse of turquoise lakes Gokyo, that will leave us captivated. On the way we will also pass the Gokyo Ri flanking our sides, in addition to trekking for 4 hours. We will also skim through the parts of the Ngozumpa Glacier one of the largest glaciers of the Himalayan region. As we continue through the trails we will see our destination the Gokyo Village, that are bordered with Tibet and the Cho Oyu. Our journey today will take us up to 6 hours.

Day 8 Gokyo peak, (5360m) to Dole

Today, we will scale to the Gokyo Peak, as you reach the elevation of 5360m at the peak you can see all the major mountain peaks of the Khumbu region. Panoramic views of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu and many more. After some rest we will begin our decent back to Gokyo Village and then make our way back to Dole.

Day 9 Khumjung Village, (3780m)

Our trails today will take us to Khumjung village sitting at an elevation of 3780 meters. Dole is very famous in spring season as all the rhododendrons bloom making the sights as you walk down exquisitely beautiful. Upon reaching the village we will rest and after a while we will head to the Khumjung Monastery.

Day 10 Manjo, (2835m)

Today as we walk down from Khumjung village, admiring the view of various peaks that come along the way, we will cross the Thame village, one of the prominent villages of the area. After walking for some more we will have to cross the Bhote khola, via the means of a suspension bridge. After a while we will reach Namche Bazaar, and leave towards Manjo covering this distance in four hours or less.

Day 11 Lukla, (2840m)

Today, we walk from Manjo to Lukla which can take up to 5 hours, it is the last day of our trek, upon arrival to Lukla we will celebrate our success

Day 12 Departure to Kathmandu

After an early morning, we hop on our flight to Kathmandu. where we get our much needed solo rest and time to contemplate on your Himalayan experience.
